Alex Schechter, DVM

Alex Schechter, DVM, is the founder of Burrwood Veterinary in Royal Oak, Michigan. After graduating with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Michigan State University, he spent nearly a decade practicing in New York City, where he helped launch Veterinary Practice Partners’ first new veterinary hospital in Manhattan. In 2022, he founded Burrwood, a forward-thinking general practice with an urgent care focus.

Dr. Schechter has a special interest in canine nutrition and preventive medicine, believing that high-quality nutrition is one of the most powerful tools for helping pets live longer, healthier lives. He is passionate about combining evidence-based medicine with innovation and technology to improve patient care and support the evolving needs of modern veterinary practices.

What motivates Dr. Schechter most is the incredible bond between people and their pets. Seeing the joy, comfort, and companionship that animals bring to our lives is what makes him excited to go to work every day. He experiences that bond firsthand with his own dog, Cy, whose unconditional companionship reinforces why helping pets live healthier, happier lives is so meaningful.
